370 Inter-Island Sea Shuttle

370 Inter-Island Sea Shuttle

Shuttle - 370

Our semi-custom vessel is aimed at the high-end of the inter-island water transfer business, with contemporary styling both inside and out, and all finishing and equipment specifications aimed at the luxury hospitality market.

The vessel provides high-speed but comfortable water transport using a hybrid catamaran hull with lift-assist hydrofoils combined with lightweight construction methods to significantly reduce fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and hence operating costs. The interior of the vessel has been developed as an open-plan but enclosed and airconditioned accommodation space with ample room for passengers and their luggage.

Propulsion is via diesel engines with conventional prop-shaft systems. However numerous propulsion options are offered including surface drives, jet drives and outboard motors. All mechanical and electrical systems have been specified for reliability, longevity, and ease of maintenance.

The vessel design and construction comply with all applicable CE-ISO standards for small commercial craft and the IMO Small Commercial Vessel Rules for the Caribbean (whichever is relevant). As the vessel has a maximum passenger capacity of 12, it is not classified as a Passenger Vessel.

Vessel Description

The hull, bulkhead, deck, coachroof and interior construction uses infused, foam-core, composite-laminate. Fuel tanks are integrally built into the hull to maximise space utilisation and longevity of tank construction.

The ride-comfort of a catamaran hull is significantly improved due to the high slenderness-ratio of the individual catamaran hulls. The narrow hulls allow the vessel to punch through waves resulting in lower vertical accelerations which give a softer and more comfortable ride for the passengers and crew. A hydrofoil system is fitted between the catamaran hulls.

These hydrofoils lift the hull partially out the water which reduces fuel consumption (and thus CO2 emissions) by 30% and the ride quality is further improved in rough seas due to the motion-damping effect of the hydrofoils. The overall result is a far more fuel-efficient vessel with low impact loads which is ideal for reducing passenger and crew fatigue.

The entire interior passenger deck has been designed as an integrated, open-plan area extending from well forward then aft to the stern to maximise interior space. Access into this passenger area is via the aft deck using two hull side-entry doors. An emergency exit at of the front of the passenger area opens onto the foredeck. The crew can access the foredeck externally via the side decks.

The passenger area has seating for 12 passengers on L-shaped seating with a courtesy refreshment station fitted forward. This area is air-conditioned, has USB power outlets, dimmable lighting and is fitted with strategically placed grab- and handrails throughout. The 1.5 kW coachroof solar PV panels are sufficient to operate the 32,000 BTU of installed air conditioning without running the main engines or generator, further reducing operating costs and CO2 emissions. Coachroof glass windows have been designed for 360° panoramic visibility throughout. Secure luggage storage is located at the forward and rear sections of the passenger area.

The helm station at the front of the passenger compartment is fitted with all ship and engine controls, navigation electronics and an alarm monitoring system. The unique low-profile design does not hinder passenger visibility forward through the windscreen.

Interior styling is simple but elegant, spacious, and comfortable. Finishes are off-mould gelcoat finish with highlighted areas covered with pressure laminates, acrylic surfacing, fabric, or vinyl-wrap. Soft finishes are faux leather with colourful, loose, soft finishes to highlight.

Deck lockers forward of the passenger deck are suitable for boat equipment storage. Additional boat equipment storage is provided in lockers at the helm station and in various hull compartments, accessible through hatches in the passenger area floor.

The mechanical and electrical systems on the vessel are designed to be simple but robust. Standard engines are twin 320hp, common-rail diesel engines driving through down-angle gearboxes to propeller shafts with 5-blade propellers.

The electrical system is 12V DC-based with a 10kW Lithium-Ion house battery bank and 180A/12V high-output alternators on each engine for battery charging. Solar PV panels of 1.5kW are fitted for house battery charging. Two-off, 3kVA inverter/chargers with shorepower connection are fitted for high energy electrical applications such as battery charging, air conditioning and domestic power outlets when docked. Manual and electric bilge pump systems are fitted.
